Rochester University basketball named team of the week

Rochester University men’s basketball team was named the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics team of the week for Feb. 10-16 by the National Association of Basketball Coaches. The men’s squad earned the honors after two conference wins against nationally ranked opponents. With a current record of 18-9 overall and 11-7 in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference, the Warriors opened the week with a 78-62 win over 24th-ranked Madonna University on Wednesday before winning at No. 13 Lourdes University on Saturday, 75-61. Rochester was efficient from long range in the two victories, hitting 8-of-18 threes against Madonna followed by 11-of-25 versus Lourdes. This marks the first time the Warriors have earned the NABC team of the week honor.  “Receiving recognition like this from an organization as classy as the NABC is truly humbling,” said Dr. Klint Pleasant, head men’s basketball coach. Pleasant praised his team saying, “It is a by-product of having a group of guys that play hard and carry themselves with class on- and off-the-court. I’m proud to be their coach and to be able to serve RU.” The NABC, located in Kansas City, Mo., has contributed numerous ideas and programs to help preserve and enhance the positive aspects of college basketball, including establishing the original Basketball Hall of Fame, creating the format for today's NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship, and supporting Coaches vs. Cancer.
