The Men’s Golf team wrapped up their season at the end of Sept. They played in a two-day tournament in Ann Arbor, at Stonebridge Golf Club, hosted by Concordia University. The men’s team finished ninth out of the eleven teams at the tournament.
They played in five tournaments this fall with three of those being two-day WHAC jamborees. Their best finish in WHAC play this fall came at their home Jamboree that took place at Fieldstone Golf Club. They found themselves in sixth place after day one. They would finish the jamboree in eighth place.
Their overall best finish was at their second match of the season. Where they took fourth out of ten teams at the Jon Spiess Memorial, in Wauseon, OH.
The golf team was one of the multiple teams that added new coaches this summer at RC. Former RC golfer William Williams took over the reigns after graduating last spring.
Williams said that this season was a season of growth. Of that growth were some moments that were very bright, such as the fourth place finish. Then there were some lows as well. However it is the future that Williams is excited about.
“Collectively, we have made strides and had some of our long time players step up. Some of our underclassman are showing signs of learning and maturity. We have some optimistic recruits coming in for Fall 2019. So we hope to use this year to lay a good foundation as we continue to bring in talent and depth,” Williams said.
Williams went on to say that he just wants to emphasize playing smart golf. He said that was exactly what they did this fall. The team will continue to work on playing smart golf and look to continue to improve heading in the spring and beyond.
