College is underway for the 2017 – 18 school year, which means so are sports teams! The volleyball team has had a busy fall already! Along with a lot of other teams over the last week.
The volleyball team had a rough match against Lawrence Tech University as they dropped the match in three sets (25-18,25-14,26-24). With the third one being close for the Warriors as they sent it into extra points before LTU was able to get a 2-point advantage to seal the set and victory over RC. Yet, they were able to bounce back against Concordia University Ann Arbor as they won in 3 sets (25-21, 25-15, 25-13). The first set was close but RC gained control through set 2 with winning a volley for the 24 point which gave RC all the momentum to close the second set out and dominate the final set. The volleyball team's record sits at 6-14, but they have won three of their last four matches.
The soccer team faced off against Cornerstone University at home and dropped the match 0-2. The soccer team finished off the week playing the 20-ranked university of Northwestern Ohio on Saturday where they dropped the match in a score of 9-0. The two losses this week now sets the warrior soccer team at 1-8 in the season.
The woman's soccer team also faced off against Cornerstone University. Unfortunately they could not get the luck they needed either as they dropped their match 2-1. Setting them with a record of 3-6 on the season. The woman's soccer team also played University of Northwest Ohio who are ranked number 3 in the country. The Warriors drop the match as well 6-0. The lose sets the women at 3-7 during this season.
The baseball team kicked off their fall season with a WHAC conference matchup with Concordia University Ann Arbor on Friday 30. The Warriors got a quality start from their starting pitcher Austin Steinfort going 5 innings allowing 2 runs on 6 hits and striking out 3. The Warriors jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first, but the bullpen could not hold the game and they lost the first game 10-3 in a 9-innings.
The softball team continued their fall season as they took on Albion College in a doubleheader on Saturday. The warriors dropped a close game in the first of two losing 4-3. Yet, they were able to bounce back in the second game of the double header to split the games with a final score of 4-1. The softball team record now stands at 4-4.
The Hockey team looked to turn the tides after a rough weekend last week. The Warriors found themselves down early as Aquinas scored in the first period. Aquinas added to more in the third period. Yet RC got goals from Jack Zarzycki and added a second goal with four seconds by Ryan Jaros with assists going to Mike Difranco and Miles Levtov. Aquinas held on those last four seconds to take game one 3-2. The Warriors traveled to Aquinas Saturday night to try to get revenge on Aquinas. Rochester College had a very rough game losing 9-1, in a show of offensive power for Aquinas. The hockey team drops to 0-4 start after coming off a successful 2016-17 campaign.
