At the beginning of this spring semester, a new resident director took over AG.
Brandon Langeland is now in charge of overseeing the freshman residents and heading up the team of RAs in the building.
For Langeland, a typical day in his job includes: looking over security records, taking care of reports and problems that the students and RAs run in to, and just generally partaking in life with AG residents.
“It’s always been very important to me to be a visible presence among the residence so that when/if an RA has to come to me about something, they’re not just talking to the mysterious man behind that one apartment door,” Langeland said.
Push from Pastor
Langeland did not join the RC Resident Life staff with out a little push from his Pastor at Woodside Bible Church, where Langeland serves in the choir and heads up all theatrical activities. When the job opportunity arose, Langeland brought it up jokingly to his Pastor. His pastor then urged him to apply, which ultimately landed Langeland in the position.
By definition, the word opportunity is a set of circumstances that make something possible. Langeland knows this all to well. When given the opportunity to live in several different places in the U.S., he went, taking those opportunities for all they were worth.
Altogether, Langeland has lived in over 7 states. This is what he has to say about his favorite place in which he has lived:
“I love Portland so much! Aside from the sheer beauty of the city itself and the incredibly artistic culture that permeates everything, there is such a vibrant Christian community there,” Langeland said.
Connection with RC
Langeland has an interesting connection with RC. Although he did not attend the college for his education, he was introduced to the college by the Arbaughs and Chad Rasor, who are all involved in the theatre department here. He met them all when he was studying for his M.A. in Theatre Ministry at Regent University.
